This Week in Music – 2/8
BHS Select Chorus performs for MSMS 8th Grade students on Feb. 3rd
This past week witnessed a visit by the BHS music ensembles to perform for all 8th graders. It was great to see the bands, choruses, and color guard display their talents and promote the BHS music offerings to next years freshman class. We have posted pictures and videos of some of the performances. Click here to see the pictures, and click on the link at the top of that post to bring you to the BHS Ensemble video sight which has a few videos, and the full recordings of each performance. Thanks to Mr. Middleton, Mr. Lovell, Mrs. Agati, and all the BHS performers for sharing their talents with the MSMS eighth grade students and faculty.
Music students selected for the Jr. District Festival are featured on the MSMS blog this week. Check out the post amd pictures, and congrats to all students who auditioned.
Band Progress Reports are due back signed by this Thursday. Please understand our intent is to give parents a true reading on their child’s progress. A student with ‘good’ for a rating is doing fine and fulfilling all expectations. We tried to reserve ‘excellent’ ratings for those areas that a student is truly excelling in. As always, parents are encouraged to contact their child’s lesson teacher if there are concerns with a comment or rating on these progress reports.
There are 2 Valentines Assemblies this week at MSMS. The Mixed Chorus and the Stage Band will be performing at both events. The Sixth Grade Assembly will be on Wednesday afternoon after lunch, with the Eighth Grade Assembly scheduled for Friday morning. Students in those two groups should listen to the morning announcements for reporting times for each performance.
There are group update posts for all three bands. Check under the posting category of each band to find these. The Concert and Symphonic Bands have just a few weeks to prepare for the next concert, the 1st Annual All-Town Band Concert on Thursday, March 11th. More details will be sent home and posted here after school vacation. Tentatively, students will wear black and white again, with a report time of 6:30 at BHS. The concert will begin at 7.
Last week saw almost 1,000 hits to this blog – by far the busiest week of the school year. We will continue to add posts and media of interest, and would love to hear any ideas that parents or students may have for useful content on this sight. Leave a comment in the comment box on the bottom of this page with suggestions or comments. We are also increasing the use of connected blogs (Band Audio, Mr. B’s and Mrs. K’s blogs, etc.) to offer expanded resources for specific performing groups, instruments, and music classes. The Band Audio files have been edited to include more recent music passed out, particularly the original selections from Wicked that are part of the Symphonic Band medley we read through this past week.
There will be no update on this blog next week as we all enjoy a little R & R during Winter vacation.

Welcome to the MSMS Music Blog
Welcome! We hope this blog helps music students and parents to keep informed on the policies and expectations regarding participation in any of our music offerings. Band and Chorus students in particular should check back regularly for information on weekly rehearsals and lesson changes. It is our intent to use this site to disseminate relevant information during the school year as a supplement to any handouts issued in class, and also to offer links to websites of interest to music students and parents. We are very interested in making this site as useful and informative as possible. Feel free give us your thoughts or suggestions on how we may better serve you.
